(More customer reviews)Black on white is the best. It is easier to read than white on black (the letters don't come out as crisp esp when using small font sizes) and black on clear. Black on Clear requires that the background is light or clear. I used to label an old Power Mac G4 Cube computer and it looked great. Other times I tried it on something that was dark and it was hard to read.
The special backgrounds can add a more professional look that the universal all purpose white on black. Brother labels are expensive but well worth the benefit which is a more organized home or work life. I have two brother printers: a portable and a desktop which is connected to my computer by USB model PT-1950. You get free software from brother's website and you can save your labels.

The yellow on black "industrial" tape is especially nice. One caution: the tape cartridge is subject to being unusable when the labeling machine feed malfunctions.

Brother PT-1010 Handheld Labeler with Rubber Grip Review

(More customer reviews)I first purchased the Brother PT-1010 thinking that I would try it out with batteries before I committed to buying the adaptor. The thing absolutely, positively would not run with BRAND NEW BATTERIES! Every time I tried to print, I got a low battery message.
Once I purchased the A/C adaptor it worked like a charm. Thus far the labels have been exactly what I was looking for - crisp printing, easy peeling and sturdy.
Besides the batteries, I have two other criticisms. First, the User's Manual is confusing. It's far easier to just start pushing buttons. Second, each label has about 1/2" wasted space on either side of the letters. I've taken to printing several labels at one time using 3 spaces to separate them. I then print as if it were one long label and cut them apart with scissors. There's much less waste that way!

Brother Pt-1200 Label Printer 1 Tz Tape Cutter 6 AAA Batteries Review

(More customer reviews)I'm so disappointed with the PT-xxxx line of labelers. The problem is that they FORCE the lead out on the tape to be 1". So, by default, you're wasting 1" of tape on the front and back. Not only is it a waste of tape, but I use this primarily for printing CD labels--something which does not have 1" on either side to spare. The PT-1200 (and other models too) have a "margin" feature, which allows you to reduce the 1" margin to something much smaller--HOWEVER, the only thing it does with this feature is to print on the tape a few dotted lines to MANUALLY cut on. So, not only are you STILL wasting tape in the lead-out, but now you have to manually cut on the dotted line with scissors (the end of the label is stopped properly at the margin width you set, but is still wasted on the front). This is the second model from Brother that I will return and I won't buy another Brother labeler in the 1000 series. The PT-85 that I used to have worked fine, so apparently they made it worse with new features in the 1000+ series.

(More customer reviews)After owning a P-touch labeler for years,I found the need for a more duable label than my "M" tape was providing. I opted for this "TZ" tape labeler. Good price,looks good. What a mistake!!! The only thing well designed about this unit is it's abilty to waste more tape than it uses!! If you print a label of any size,count on it costing you two full inches of tape to do it!!! At $20.00 a roll,prepare to be screwed each time you push the print button.Then go find the scissors and cut the excess off,so the label does not look as stupid as the person who designed this pile of junk!!! But cheer up you can push six buttons,every time,to reduce the margin to "narrow". This will reduce the waste to a half inch on ONE side of the label,and print two small dots on the other side,this will show you where to cut it with your scissors,to match the "narrow" side. Also you must do ALL settings for EVERY label EVERY time!!Another "great feature,it will use the same amount of tape regaurdless of print size,so you will only print large print.What a joke!!! What a hassle!! Now the good news. I used to make lots of labels,and now I only make labels for VERY important items. And only when I am up to getting mad for doing so. I really wish amazon would allow us to give items a negative five stars! You have been warned!

(More customer reviews)I have wanted a labeling device for some time and always thought of them as plastic strips with pressed letters. These labels are great and so easy to make. I choose this one as it comes with an ac adapter which is about another $30 dollars for the ones without. At $45 it was less than a $20 labeler plus adpater. As other reviewers state, the machine is the cheap part, the tape is the expensive part. Check the cutting settings so you don't waste tape. I have not used the software that comes with this as those capibilities at this time exceed my needs. I leave it plugged in and it is reay to go. After a short period of non-use it goes to sleep. I am using the labels for cords and transfomers around my computer, labeling items, and will soon use them on file folders. At that time I may find uses for the software. All yo do is type in your info, if you need more than one line hit enter. Easy preview. You just have to remember to hit enter after every entry in the menu. The info remains so you can print it again or easily clear. I recommend it.

(More customer reviews)The PT2030AD Desktop Labeler AC Adapter Hardware is the perfect solution for making sharp, distinctive labels in the office and home. If you have never used a Brother Labeler, you simply cannot imagine all the uses. I first used an earlier model to label notebooks but once I started using the labeler for one office task, I began discovering more and more uses for these easy to read, classy looking labels! As compared to the earliest models, the PT2030AD is a sleeker desktop tool and lighter to make portable use more convenient for trade shows, hobby activities, and other activities such as labeling moving boxes. Quite simple, it feels more comfortable to hold than the earlier models.
The PT2030AD kit includes the labeler, the AC adapter, one starter Cassette and a thick user guide in English and Spanish. Inserting and removing the cassettes is easy and intuitive. Make sure to use the tape feed when inserting a new cassette to prevent separation within tape. The one issue that plagued the earlier model I used was tape separation which rendered the cassette unusable even when plenty of tape remains. So far, I have not experienced tape separation with the
PT2030AD model despite multiple uses.
Users will need the user guide to see all the options available and figure out how to set the menu functions. Having used an earlier model, I was able to plug and play a bit without use of the guide but I still need to refer to the manual to make full use of all the choices in the menu. For basic functions, a user has a choice of font, size, width and style. The guide gives clear examples of these as well as using frames, templates as well as tips for maintaining product and troubleshooting. A brochure explaining all the tape varieties is also included in the package.
The PT2030AD has many options including accents, special characters, symbols, bar code, preset labels with small graphics/special fonts. Basically, if you need a label the PT2030AD can make it and make it look sharp and organized. One word for ham radio operators who might want to use the labeler to label their equipment for club activities or Field Day: the slash 0 is there and easy to make! Tamper evident tape is available as is fabric iron-on, flexible tape for wiring and cables, acid-free tape, supper narrow for CD/DVD boxes, and extra strength tape.

(More customer reviews)This is a good printer for someone looking to customize their labels with designs, upside down/right side up, reverse color and other fancy tricks. For business purposes, I'd recommend a printer that takes larger interchangable tapes and less gimmicks. Maximum tape size is 1/2" so dual line print is very small. Keyboard is very tiny, will be limited to two finger typing only. Has two fonts (Bohemia and Helsenki) but can alter with three sizes, three widths and nine stypes (bold, vertical, underline, shadow, hearts or stars, etc.) Emphasizes Deco Mode which does very fancy printing but wouldn't be used in a standard business setting. Nice compact size so can be carried around easily. AC power supply is an optional accessory ($19) so may want to factor that into purchase, otherwise uses six AAA batteries.

(More customer reviews)I'm surprised by the negative reviews for the DYMO LabelMANAGER 300 & 200. I own the 200 for the office & am buying the 300 for use at home. PLEASE NOTE: If you like labeling (I've become addicted), there is a HUGE difference between Dymo & Brother - the ease of exposing the "sticky" side of the tape. Dymo tapes all have a split down the middle of the back which makes using them a BREEZE!!!! This is VERY IMPORTANT!! So important I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned. I even gave my Brother Touchpoint away because of this, my secretary & I found it too cumbersome to remove the label backing and I was tempted to throw it away rather than subject someone else to this lack of design.
The font selections are very easy and intuitive with these models, I'm surprised that others found them difficult. Also, a big bonus is the keyboard. They are large & very easy to use. With this purchase I'll own 3 labellers, all by DYMO, believe me, you can't beat their label tape design...
